The French Revolution is considered a historical event because there are written evidence to prove it. Archeological records, written records of the past, etc. There can be stories -legends, myths, folktales, etc.

But they are not considered to be history. For example, the story of King Arthur is accepted to be based on some real facts, but King Arthur is not considered to be a real historical figure, but a legend. A story is a narrative.
