If I switch around fuel relay with another relay it starts up. I have put in the shop for 1 week the code is reading a bad relay.
Could it be my fuel pump or should I just replace the relay?? My MB SL runs normal untill the engine is warm, then it starts shaking, power is going down and finally the engine stops. Immediate ignition and engine turns again.
I can drive for half a mile and it starts all over and over again. Can the fuel pump relay cause this because a contact may not be Thx for your opinion. I have a Pontiac Grand Prix and when I turn the engine off the fuel pump keeps running , and the fuel pump will come on without the key being in the ignition and keep running.
In this case, you have to check the fuel pump relay to see if it's constantly engaged. Check if the engine control unit are sending constant ground or 12v to the relay also. The mechanic installed new fuel pump on my Chevy Malibu engine cranks but won't start. What could cause this? Also if it's not the fuel pump will i still be charged for new one?
I'm 74 and live alone just don't know what to do. The fuel pump relay is an important component of the fuel system of your vehicle.
Here is a more detailed list of the most common symptoms of a bad fuel pump relay. Contents show. Bad Fuel Pump Relay Symptoms 1. Check Engine Light on. Rough Acceleration. Engine Stalling. Engine is completely dead. No noise from fuel pump on ignition. This page is for personal, non-commercial use. The location can be different, however, in some other cars.
Without this relay , the engine would not receive fuel while starting. The pump that delivers fuel to the engine while the engine is running requires electricity in order to operate. This electricity is created by an oil pressure device in the engine. If this sound is not audible, it is an indication that the pump relay may not be functioning as it should.
When this relay fails the engine will start after the starter motor has pumped up sufficient oil pressure to send electricity to the fuel pump and run it. This can make the cranking of the engine last longer than normal.
If you hear no humming from the fuel pump but the car eventually starts and runs fine, then the fuel pump relay has failed. If the fuel pump relay fails, the engine management system records this event. A fuel pressure sensor lets the computer know if the fuel pressure has not created any pressure during cranking operation.
On some vehicles, there will only be an oil light indicator. When the indicator light goes out, then there is oil pressure. Step 3: Park your vehicle on a flat, hard surface. Make sure that the transmission is in park for automatics or in 1st gear for manuals. Step 4: Place wheel chocks around the tires. In this case, the wheel chocks will be around the front tires since the rear of the vehicle will be lifted up.
Engage the parking brake to the lock the rear tires from moving. Step 5: Install a nine volt battery saver into your cigarette lighter. This will keep your computer live and keep your setting current in the vehicle. If you do not have a nine volt battery saver, that is okay. Step 7: Locate the fuse box in the engine compartment. Remove the cover to the fuse box. Step 8: Using the diagram on the fuse box cover, locate the fuel pump relay.
Once you open up the fuse box, you can use the diagram on the fuse box cover to find the fuse to the fuel pump relay. If the fuel pump relay fails, it will cut off power to the fuel pump, which will render it inoperable, and therefore silent when the ignition is on. While the fuel pump relay is a very simple component, it plays a very important role in the proper operation of the vehicle. If your vehicle is displaying any of the symptoms above, or you suspect that your fuel pump relay is having an issue, have the vehicle inspected by a professional technician to determine if the component should be replaced.

If the fuel pump or filter begins to fail, lower than specified fuel pressure may cause various symptoms. Where is the fuel pump fuse and relay located? Where is the fuel pump relay located? In most vehicles, the fuel pump relay can be located in the fuse box in the engine bay. The fuse box of the engine is usually a long black box which contains fuel pump relay along with various other fuses and relays.
Where is the fuse relay? The relay is usually located on the fuse box inside the vehicle on the side of the radio console. Is it the fuel pump or the relay? The main relay is basically a switch that turns the fuel pump on. If the relay fails, the fuel pump won't turn on and there won't be any fuel pressure to check. If the relay is good and fuel pump is bad, then there will be no fuel pressure to check either.
Of the two, the relay is much easier to get to. Can a fuse stop a car from starting? A blown fuse in the starter circuit could be the cause of a no-start problem. Broken or corroded wiring - Damaged or dirty wires to the battery or to the starter solenoid or wires that are loose can prevent sufficient power from reaching the starter.
